EDUCATE AND HELP PEOPLE WITH BUILDING AND MAINTAINING KOI PONDS

Koi Rescue

Please let us rescue your koi and find good homes for them

  • Closing down your pond?
  • Pond is leaking or the pump broken?
  • Bought a house and the Koi came with it?
  • Moving and can’t take your Koi with you?
  • Overstocked pond? Looking to cull a few?

Don’t release your Koi into the wild.

We can help!

The Lone Star Koi Club offers a rescue program in the Houston Metro area where we recycle koi into good homes. This is much like other animal-rescue programs in that we match the size of you koi to ponds where they can thrive. We cover about a 60 mile radius from downtown.

Please do not let your koi die. If you cannot take care of your pond because you are moving or just over-stocked, call us to the rescue. As with many animals we keep, there comes a time when the most humane thing to do is let them go to a better home, a home that can better care for them, a place of safety and health.

Whatever your situation, we offer a free koi rescue service.

All you have to do is contact Scott Sartorius, ssartorius@comcast.net or David Pinder, dmpinder@rocketmail.com and we will make arrangements to rescue your fish. We do this free of charge to you and no cost to us. We come with all the necessary equipment to safely catch and transport your fish so you don’t have to go swimming after them. We may have to drain your pond down to assist in capturing the fish without harm.

The fish are then taken to good homes. If none are available they are transported to one of our rescue partners like the Omni Hotel Westside. Sometimes we may hold them in quarantine until we can auction them. Proceeds from koi activities are used to offset club expenses. No member profits from your fish.

We also keep a list of folks looking for Koi to stock their ponds with, If that is the case, please contact us and you will be placed on the waiting list.

While some new koi owners hear about the value of koi and want to sell their fish, fish from backyard pond usually do not command high prices. It is the Koi Breeders and Koi Vendors who have select fish that command high prices. The Japanese and domestic breeders cull each new spawn for those expensive fish. The very best they keep for themselves or command very high prices.

The Houston Koi and Pond Socienty does not buy fish as we are a non-profit organization.

Our rescue volunteers work, have obligations and have families, so please allow us time to schedule the rescue of your beautiful fish.
